Notebook

I decided to do a geometric design for my notebook. I created a hexagon and then duplicated it until that design filled the front and back of my notebook. I then moved the hexagons closer together on the front so that I could put my name on the front. The hexagons on both the front and back will be cut out, and my name on the front will be engraved.

Waterbottle

I found a clip art image of pumpkins on the internet and copied it into illustrator. I then took it and turned it into a vector image. Normally I would be ready to print now, but since I was printing on a water bottle I had to rotate it 90 degrees so that it would print normally onto the sideways water bottle.

- Setting up my print in Illustrator/UCP
I first set up the material type and other settings in illustrator and then I went to UCP. Once I was in UCP I made sure it was still the correct material and then I made sure my design fit onto my water bottle. I couldn't have it go too high up because it would mess up the print and it couldn't go to low because it wouldn't be on my water bottle anymore. Once everything was lined up correctly and fit on my water bottle I started printing.

- Setting my print up in Illustrator/UCP
I set up my print in Illustrator making sure every setting was correct and then I used UCP to select the material setting for cardboard. Then I moved my print so it was on the cardboard. I had to do two prints because my last piece was too low so I had to print out 4 pieces and then the 5th separately.

What I Learned
This rotation had the most happening during it which made it more challenging. I mainly learned from this rotation that getting my prints done as soon as possible was the only way I could stay ahead. However that wasn't all I learned. I learned about a new website called Thingiverse and how to take files from that website and transfer them to my computer so I could cut them out using the laser. I also found out that you can use the laser on cylindrical objects like the water bottle fairly easily and you can use the laser to make simple designs or extremely complicated and intricate designs just as easily.
